What kind of groups are there?:
Get Real Youth Outreach coordinates Christian faith-based groups in the areas mentioned below. These groups typically run for 13-15 weeks, and consist of two trained leaders, and two to eight teenagers who meet weekly for mutual support and encouragement. Get Real Youth Outreach offers a variety of groups to middle schoolers and high schoolers who are struggling with the following life issues:
Current Groups Available:
- "Divorce Care (Outreach start-up guide available to other churches!)"
- "Is this outreach available to my church?"
- Targeted to kids in divorced families or broken homes
- Groups also for kids in 4th thru 6th grade
- Teen Pregnancy (In piloting stages thru New Life Christian Church, VA)
- Prevention and Reaction
- Depression* (In piloting stages thru New Life Christian Church, VA)
- Depending on severity of depression, professional counseling may be a pre-requisite
We are currently in the process of training and equipping leaders and developing our outreaches for these additional life issues:
- Addictions*
- Drugs, alcohol, pornography, school, sex, work
- Eating disorders*
- Homosexuality
- Anxiety, Panic, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Codependency
- Loss: Death/Grieving
- Foster Care/Dealing with issues of being adopted
- Anger Management
*A pre-requisite for taking these groups is that student would already have to be involved in professional therapy/counseling.
**Volunteer instructors who serve in Get Real Youth Outreach have completed the necessary training to conduct these sessions and facilitate groups. Volunteers DO NOT carry professional titles as counselors or therapists.
